After Rolls-Royce published some official information about the Spectre in February, the brand’s first fully electric model has now celebrated its world premiere. The newcomer heralds a new era, because by 2030, Rolls-Royce wants to become a purely electric brand.
For the Spectre, which is also considered the successor to the Wraith, the British company resorted to their “Architecture of Luxury” platform. This is an all-aluminium space frame that was tailor-made for the electric drive, but also forms the basis for the current combustion models Phantom, Cullinan and Ghost.
Rolls-Royce can always draw on the know-how of its German parent company, BMW, which already has several electric cars in its range including the brand new luxury sedan i7 and the SUV flagship iX.
The tests are still being conducted at the moment so the final data for range, performance and acceleration have not yet been determined completely. However, the preliminary information is already impressive.
The Rolls-Royce Spectre comes with two electric motors which can deliver 430 kW together and provide a maximum torque of 900 Newton metres. It also comes with all-wheel-drive and can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds on the way to a top speed of 250 km/h. The 100 kWh battery should enable a range of up to 520 kilometres with the standard 23-inch wheels.
Visually, the Spectre is an impressive sight with its almost three tons (2975 kg) of weight. Although the electric debut is a two-door coupe, it is 5.45 metres long, 2.08 metres wide and 1.56 metres high. As with other models of the brand, it comes with rear-hinged doors.
Typical Rolls-Royce features like the striking grill and the legendary hood mascot are not forgotten on the Spectre. However, both have been adapted for the electric age. For the first time, the grill is completely closed and the retractable “Spirit of Ecstasy” braces herself more streamlined against the wind.
